"You are a gargoyle protecting a town. Most of the time, you are a stone statue of a grotesque monster, perched up high on a building. In special instances, however… You come alive."

Watch of the Gargoyle is an epistolary RPG that simulates life as... Well, a gargoyle. It is played by drawing from a deck of standard playing cards and writing responses to the matching prompts. Each of the prompts is designed to detail something that's happened to you or in your town, but the sky is the limit with what you choose to write! After all, this is only a guide. This game can be played either solo, as if you’re writing a journal, or with two players, as if you’re passing letters to each other.

Materials Required:
1 or 2 decks of standard playing cards, a means of writing, and this guide.

Note From the Author

Hello! I sincerely hope that you enjoy Watch of the Gargoyle, whether you play it once or for years on end. I wrote it with nothing but passion in my heart, and a love for gargoyles and epistolary games.

I hope to one day bring it even further and publish a physical copy of this game, complete with a themed notebook section for writing your entries in. Keep your eye out on our page, wish upon a shooting star, and maybe one day it’ll come true!

I’m also hoping that this project will help kick-start Story Night Publishing. We are a small, budding business started by two nerds with super-massive dreams. Every contribution helps us bring our content to even more nerds like you! We can’t thank you enough for your support on our journey.

 With Gratitude,
